John MacDonald was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Leitch Technology Corporation from November 1999 to December 2001 and continues to serve on the Leitch Board of Directors. Prior to that John was President and Chief Operating Officer of Bell Canada.
John brings to the Leitch Board an extensive background in telecommunications to Leitch, having worked with New Brunswick Telephone Company (NBTel) for almost 18 years. He began his career with NBTel in 1977 in the network design section of the company's engineering department. At NBTel he worked in systems planning and management before being appointed chief engineer and later general manager of engineering and information systems in 1989. John became vice president of planning in 1991 and was appointed president and CEO of NBTel in 1994. He joined Bell Canada in 1994 as executive vice president of business development and chief technology officer.
John is a graduate of Dalhousie University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He is also a member of the federal government's Advisory Council on Science and Technology and has chaired the National Selection Committee for the federal government's Smart Communities Program.
